Office of the CEO

I believe this statement is not new to you and have been heard before; the organization is like a human being. It grows all the time. The growth takes various forms and different shapes and MDIC is no exception. As an organisation, MDIC must grow and has, indeed, been growing over the past decades since its inception. The path that brought MDIC to where it is right now has certainly not been an easy one or a smooth sailing. The path has been bumpy and winding of course, sometimes creating totally undesirable situations.

The organization had to be strong to cope with all challenges faced along the way and further continued to create hopes for the better future. This process requires, amongst other things, hard work, self determination, sacrifice and total commitment. The successes therefore for the organisation have so far been achieved would surely not have been realised if it was not for the goodwill of some dedicated individuals, private and public sector organisations. Financial support, philanthropic and other type of support the organization continue to receive from local and international organisations account for the organisation’s existence, since its establishment in 1978 by the Methodist Church of Southern Africa. And this support enables MDIC to continue with its local programming.

The ultimate aim of the organisation is to establish a model for the reduction of poverty that undermines family and community life. This model should focus on promoting values based on respect for human dignity, integrated socio-economic development practises, tolerance of other people’s views, opinions and beliefs, sustainability, accountability, collaboration, fairness, and human rights and diversity. In pursuance of its mission and objectives MDIC works with individuals, families, communities, traditional councils, district and local municipalities, non-governmental and community-based organisations in the process of developing target beneficiaries. This strategy promotes and develops the kind of mutually or reciprocally beneficial partnerships and collaborative efforts between and amongst development stakeholders and key roleplayers.

The mission of the organization is the development of historical disadvantaged youth, rural women, disabled persons by training, exposing and linking them with relevant institutions, and assist them to be engaged in income earning opportunities that make their lives better. This mission statement is reflected and embedded in the MDIC service offerings, which are:

b) Coaching and Mentoring;
c) Social Enterprise Development and Investment;
d) Community Mobilisation, Policy Dialogue (Advocacy and Lobbying);
e) Rural Development (Community Facilitation and Organising), and;
f) Knowledge Development Management and Sharing.

MDIC has a Memorandum and the Articles of Association and operates under a diverse board of directors. The board of directors have among other things the following responsibilities:

a) Achieve the organisation’s objectives;
b) Define and achieve financial targets;
c) Ensure that the organisation’s legal requirements are met;
d) Establish policy guidelines;
e) Ensure that strategic planning and direction have taken place;
f) Ensure the organisation’s image, and etc.

From the office of the Chief Executive Officer
